RP 101 Part 1 - JOURNALS AND ICONS
JOURNALS
For each character you play, you are going to want a separate journal here on Dreamwidth with a specific name that applies to them. For example,
thestar is my Brian journal. I'm not going to use it for anything other than RPing Brian. This keeps things simple!
The name you use is usually related to some aspect of your character's personality--probably one of your favorite aspects. I chose this for Brian because I think his identity as ~the star~ is important to understanding him. I RP Alex under the username
staticky, for obvious reasons. Some people go for more humorous usernames, some people go for serious usernames. It's up to you! Remember, a name that is clearly associated with that character will help other players remember who is who.
ICONS
Some RPers are more invested in icons than others. I'm definitely into icons, but that doesn't mean all of you have to be! These are just suggestions.
First off, icons are 100x100 pixel images. If you don't have a graphics program on your computer, I would recommend pixlr.com. If you're not good at making graphics, please comment here or send me a message somewhere, and I will make icons for your character! I love making icons, so you will not be putting me out or annoying me, I promise.
To upload your icons, go here. You can upload up to 15 icons with a free account directly from your computer.
You should definitely have at least ONE icon of your character as the default. Not using an icon will throw other players off and make it harder for them to remember who you're playing. Also it just looks nicer.
Beyond your default icon, I would suggest making icons for all of the most common emotions your character will convey. This will help other players visualize your character more clearly during a scene. I usually make sure to have icons that convey happiness, sadness, confusion, fear, anger, and love. This will vary a bit from character to character. For example, Brian will probably have more happy icons than... basically anyone else in Marble Hornets.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, please leave a comment or message me here or on Tumblr. More RP 101 posts will be up shortly so we can get this show on the road soon!
